Lugnuts announce 2010 coaching staff
LANSING, MI. –The Lansing Lugnuts, in conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, have announced the names of the 2010 Lugnuts coaching staff.
Sal Fasano, a ten-year Major League veteran, will take the reigns for the first time in Lansing. Joining Fasano will be hitting coach John Tamargo Jr., returning pitching coach Antonio Caceres, and trainer James Gardiner.
Fasano, 38, played for various teams including the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays before retiring last summer to begin a managing career. The Chicago native takes the place of former manager, Clayton McCullough, who has been assigned to the Advanced-A team in Florida.
"I have heard so many great things about the team in Lansing," Fasano said. "I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great season."
Tamargo, 34, will start his role as Lugnuts hitting coach in 2010. Tamargo joins the Blue Jays organization for the first time after coaching in the Astros system for five years. The Tampa native is the son of John Tamargo, Sr., a five-year MLB veteran with the Montreal Expos. Tamargo, Jr. played collegiate baseball for the University of Florida and eight minor league seasons before becoming a coach in 2004.
Caceres, 32, continues in his second season with the Lugnuts as pitching coach. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native pitched four seasons in the Blue Jays system from 1995 to 1998.
Gardiner continues with the Blue Jays organization after spending the 2009 season with the Auburn Doubledays.
The Lugnuts' 15th season will begin on Wednesday, April 14th when they host the Lake County Captains. Season tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased for as little as $60 by visiting www.lansinglugnuts.com or by calling (517) 485-4500.
