Lansing and South Bend suspended
Lugnuts lead 4-0 after three frames

South Bend, Ind. – A driving rainstorm blew through Coveleski Stadium after the completion of the third inning Wednesday night, forcing the game between the Lansing Lugnuts and South Bend Silver Hawks to be suspended due to wet grounds. Lansing leads the contest 4-0 heading to the top of the fourth.

For the second straight night, a first inning homer gave the Lugnuts the lead. Jonathan Jaspe smashed a two-out dinger over the right field wall, giving Lansing a 1-0 lead.

Lansing added three more runs in the third inning. With two men on, Jaspe drove a double off of the right-center field wall that scored Justin Jackson, making it a 2-0 game. Matt Liuzza then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that plated John Tolisano from third base to extend the lead to 3-0. Kevin Ahrens followed that with an infield single that Jaspe home from third base to push the advantage to 4-0.

Brian Letko pitched extremely well for Lansing, as he retired all nine batters that he faced.

The game will picked up in the fourth inning and played to completion beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday night. A seven-inning affair will follow that 30 minutes after the finish of game one.
